Google Maps and Waze are among the most popular navigation apps on mobile devices, so it’s not uncommon to see many similar functions in both services. Google’s app included the inclusion of a feature in Waze in March: accident reporting and radar location. However, this latest app has launched a new feature die users to see if they will reach Google Maps.
Waze continues to offer a better first-hand experience despite Google’s attempts to incorporate many of the features of this app into its Maps app. Now Waze has received a new feature, a new type of accident reports that Google Maps users want to get. As the company informed itself through Twitter’s social networking, Waze will now display snow conditions in real time, warning the user to change the route he intends to take.
To access this new function, users must access the list of “climate hazards”, and then look for a report “Unoccupied Road”. This feature follows a collaboration between Waze and virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), an organization that plans to leverage navigation app user data this winter to improve its operations this season.
The department will monitor the data of Waze users, as well as people cleaning sidewalks from snow. It’s undoubtedly a job Google should use to apply its maps, where it can be basic information when driving especially in these cold weeks.
